Trump Campaign and RNC to Deploy Over 100,000 Observers for Election Integrity in Upcoming Elections

Trump and the RNC are preparing to send an unprecedented number of observers—over 100,000 attorneys and volunteers—to battleground states this November. Their goal is to monitor and, if necessary, challenge the vote-counting process.  Trump has stressed the importance of having the right officials “to count the ballots,” which he views as crucial as voter turnout. The plan is to have attorneys observe various voting-related processes, including machine testing and mail ballot processing. Poll watchers and voters will be able to call a hotline to report any problems.  I’m curious how a hotline open to all voters will work; one of the main issues with election integrity operations is sorting through the overwhelming number of calls from poll watchers, adding voters into the mix will make it difficult to manage.  Lawyers are expected to be present at every key mail ballot processing center to monitor tabulations — which will be a daunting task as well.

In a statement, Charlie Spies, RNC chief counsel said, “In 2024 we’re going to beat the Democrats at their own game and the RNC legal team will be working tirelessly to ensure that elections officials follow the rules in administering elections. We will aggressively take them to court if they don’t follow rules or try to change them at the last minute.”

Last minute rule changes and election administrators not applying the written procedures/laws were a huge problem in 2020, and the RNC/Trump campaign is wise to be better prepared this cycle to deal with these issues.
