After months of testimony, John Eastman mounts his defense in State Bar trial

John Eastman, ex-Chapman University law school dean and Trump advisor, faces California Bar’s case alleging unfit law practice due to ethics violations concerning false election fraud claims. Eastman’s first witness, former Wisconsin Supreme Court justice Michael Gableman, led a controversial, taxpayer-funded investigation into the 2020 election, despite admitting lack of election law experience. Gableman’s inquiry, costing over $1 million, alleged Wisconsin election illegalities, but Biden’s victory withstood court challenges, a recount, and a nonpartisan audit. Gableman’s report criticized grant money from the Center for Tech and Civic Life (CTCL) given to Wisconsin cities, implying it was a scheme to elect Democrats. However, CTCL awarded grants to all applying election offices, and courts ruled the grants lawful. Eastman’s disbarment threat isn’t his only concern, as he also faces criminal charges in Georgia for election-related schemes.
