DeSantis took undisclosed private flights and lodging through wealthy donors

Florida Governor DeSantis took undisclosed private jet trips and accepted lodging and dining during late 2018, revealing a tendency for luxury travel and time with wealthy donors. These trips occurred between DeSantis’s election and inauguration. One trip involved DeSantis travelling to Augusta National Golf Club on a plane owned by Mori Hosseini, a major home builder. Hosseini later profited from $92m in federal pandemic funding steered towards a highway project by the DeSantis administration. DeSantis didn’t report these trips or accommodations as gifts or campaign contributions. It’s unclear whether he reimbursed the flights at the cost of coach airfare. His then-campaign lawyer had written a memo stating that as governor-elect, he was required to report all accepted gifts over $100, including transportation and lodging. The undisclosed trips show DeSantis’s political rise through connections with rich patrons and a taste for luxury travel. His preference for private jet travel has continued into his White House bid.
