Haley seeks bump in next debate as her campaign looks to build momentum

John Eastman, ex-Chapman University law school dean and Trump advisor, faces California Bar trial for alleged ethics violations linked to false election fraud claims. Eastman’s first witness, former Wisconsin Supreme Court justice Michael Gableman, led a controversial, taxpayer-funded election investigation yielding no fraud proof. Gableman’s report focused on grant money from the Center for Tech and Civic Life (CTCL), funded by Mark Zuckerberg, to facilitate COVID-19 pandemic voting. Despite accusations of election bribery, federal courts ruled the grants legal. Eastman also faces criminal charges in Fulton County, Ga., for election-related schemes. His trial continues Tuesday.

Nikki Haley’s presidential campaign faces a critical second GOP debate in California. Despite a strong performance in the first debate and a subsequent bump in polls, Haley faces stiff competition from GOP rivals, especially former President Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. Haley’s campaign has emphasized her experience as South Carolina governor and U.N. ambassador, and her potential to refresh GOP leadership. The second debate, scheduled for Sept. 27, is crucial for maintaining her momentum. Haley leads President Biden in a hypothetical general election matchup in a new CNN poll.
